KAU TOM
Kau Tom is a light and hearty Thai rice soup, usually made with boiled rice, shrimp, pork or chicken and a flavorful broth. It has a mild flavor, perfect for breakfast or a light dinner.
Kau Tom classic ingredients:
– Boiled rice (jasmine)
– Seafood or meat (shrimp, minced pork, chicken)
– Garlic (fried until golden)
– Ginger (fresh, chopped or grated)
– Broth (chicken or meat)
– Soy or fish sauce
– Green onions and cilantro – for serving
– Pepper (ground white)
– Lime, fried garlic, chili pepper in vinegar – optional
The soup is soft and easy to digest – popular with children, the elderly and in hospitals.
In Thailand, it is often eaten for breakfast, as an alternative to porridge.
